ATITO's programmes have delivered competitive advantages for nationwide firm Alsco. Much of this advantage has come through a welcome balance between work and personal life for about 70 people who have gone through firstline management training.
Alsco provides managed uniform, linen, floorcare and washroom services throughout New Zealand. One of the features of its workforce is that a high proportion of the branch and department management has been appointed through internal promotions. This maximises the wealth of experience in the company but meant that, prior to their involvement in ATITO programmes, many managers had never achieved formal qualifications.
According to CEO Tony Colenso, management trainees have benefited from training in self-management and goal setting.
"This is very valuable in the workplace, but is highly applicable in life away from work as well," said Tony. "In fact, you can't get it right in one area without the other."
Alsco has seen valuable performance improvements from the training. This has come about through setting goals and monitoring the achievement of those goals. Managers are also finding that they are better equipped to manage people who report directly to them.
The benefits for Alsco have been better quality of service to customers and higher productivity levels. All of which serve to enhance the company's competitiveness.
Alsco are so delighted with the results to date that they are now considering adopting a laundry certificate programme and are working with ATITO to develop a service delivery training programme.
The service delivery programme will be a great help for people dealing directly with customers. Tony is delighted that ATITO was responsive to Alsco's request for a new programme. He is particularly pleased that the ATITO training subsidy will mean that Alsco can place twice as many people through the programme than would otherwise be possible.
